On Oct 25th 2013 Miyah's family was hit with the most horrific and life altering news. Their 4yr old daughter was diagnosed with Stage 3B Burkitts Lymphoma. During this time Damiyah was already suffering with Kidney failure due to tumors pressings against them from its rapid growth. Damiyah spent her beginning fight in ICU due to complications where she underwent dialysis before she could start her Chemotherapy. By the will of God she pulled through and was placed in remission not long after her treatment plan. After a few months the worst happened again, She relapsed on May 25th 2014 with a slim chance of survival. She received the relapse protocol and was cleared for Bone Marrow by the grace of God. She had her transplant on July 25th 2014, which was successful and we left for home to start our road to recovery. What we thought was freedom ended up back as captivity.
Damiyah relapsed again and we received confirmation on Oct 23rd 2014. Damiyah was not given the best chance at survival, at only a 5% survival rate she has proven her ability to live against that odd. Throughout this year Damiyah underwent numerous Surgeries, Surgical Procedures, dealt with life threatening infections and complications. Miyah lost her battle on Monday December 8, 2014 but Miyah was a very strong fighter. She was a lil lady but she fought lymphoma like she was a heavy weight and that's what I admire most about her.
I met Miyah and her family on April 27, 2014, at the Lymphoma Research Foundation 5K
Lymphomathon and it was a true honor to meet such a strong precious individual. Miyah walked it out on that day and walked all the way to the finish line with her family. As an Ambassador for the Lymphoma Research Foundation I want to dedicate the 2015 Lymphomathon in honor of Miss Miyah. The walk will take place on Sunday April 19, 2015 and I want to build a team named after Miyah and raise funds in her honor with both my family and friends and hers.
Last year, Team "Our Dzire" raised over $2,000 but this year I plan to triple that amount to help with blood cancer research and to help save the lives of patients living with lymphoma today. This will be a team's effort, so I will need your help in my mission to raise funds and awareness. Please share this post with your family and friends and let's raise lymphoma awareness
